Oracle, Microsoft Restructure India Teams as Tech Layoffs Continue

Table of Content

Global technology giants Oracle and Microsoft are restructuring parts of their India workforces, part of a wider wave of tech layoffs touching the country. The moves follow similar exercises at Samsung India, Uber, and Walmart’s tech centres earlier this year.

What’s driving the cuts

Executives point to familiar pressures: slower discretionary spending, vendor consolidation, and the need to fund AI bets. At Samsung India, workforce cuts in batches were linked to pressure on smartphone sales and margins, with memory chip prices more than doubling.

India impact

The India impact has been selective rather than sweeping, concentrated in sales, marketing, and overlapping product roles. Hiring continues in cloud, data, and AI engineering even as other teams shrink.

Advice for professionals

Career advisers say experienced hands should treat this as a re-skilling moment: AI tooling, domain depth, and client-facing skills are the differentiators. The churn, painful as it is, reflects an industry retooling rather than retreating.
